How Often Should You Really Dry Clean Your Clothes?
By MyCleaners Team
Over‑cleaning can wear out your garments, but under‑cleaning can damage them too. Here’s how to find the right balance for different types of clothing.
There is no single rule for how often you should dry clean everything in your wardrobe—it depends on the fabric, how often you wear it, and in what conditions. Suits worn daily for work usually need cleaning every 3–4 wears, while occasion outfits might only need attention once or twice a season.
Wool coats and jackets can often go through an entire season with just one or two professional cleans, as long as you brush off surface dust and hang them properly between uses. Silk blouses and dresses, on the other hand, pick up body oils and odours more quickly, so cleaning them every 1–3 wears keeps them fresh without over‑treating the fabric.
As a rule, if a garment looks dull, smells musty, or has visible marks, it’s time for a clean. Between visits, hang items on good‑quality hangers, air them out after wearing, and store them in a cool, dry space. This approach keeps your clothes looking polished while avoiding unnecessary wear from over‑cleaning.
