How to Care for Your Wool Clothes This Winter
By MyCleaners Team
Wool is a delicate fabric that needs special care. Here's everything you need to know to keep your woollen garments looking brand new through winter and beyond.
Wool is a natural fibre, which makes it warm, breathable, and long‑lasting—but it also means it can shrink, stretch, or lose shape if it’s not handled the right way. The golden rule is to treat wool gently. Always check the care label first; if it recommends dry cleaning, avoid machine washing altogether.
If washing at home, use cold water and a mild, wool‑safe detergent. Choose a gentle cycle or, even better, hand‑wash your garments by slowly agitating them in the water instead of scrubbing or twisting. Once washed, never wring wool. Press out the excess water using a clean towel and lay the item flat to dry on a drying rack so it keeps its shape.
Store wool pieces folded rather than hanging to prevent them from stretching at the shoulders. During off‑season months, keep them in breathable storage bags with moth repellents like cedar blocks or lavender sachets. With a bit of extra care, your favourite sweaters, coats, and scarves will stay soft, cosy, and looking new for many winters to come.
